On May 24th Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead in a hotel near Urbandale, Iowa. He was 38. He is survived by his wife Brenna who is expecting their first child later this year. She and surviving members of the band who all appeared unmasked held an emotional news conference on Tuesday.
“He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and a really great person. He’s going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him.”
— Bandmate Shawn Crahan
Police have found no evidence of foul play in Gray’s death, but the investigation is ongoing. Gray has had his share of troubles in the past. In 2003, he was arrested in Des Moines for possession of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a car accident. There were bottles of pills and a syringe were found next to Paul’s body.
Slipknot was one of the most compelling metal bands to come out of the 1990’s. They recently have been on a one year hiatus.
Vanmusic is deeply saddened to hear of Paul Gray’s death and our thoughts are with his family, bandmates, friends and all his fans around the world.
